Vice President-elect Sara attends moving-up ceremony in Pangasinan, stands in as mother of graduating student


PANGASINAN – Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio lived up to her promise to be with this 10th grader on the occasion of moving-up ceremony in a San Carlos City school in this province on Friday, May 27.

Angel Mae Tayaba may be an ordinary student at Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation Special Science High School, yet what a day in her life upon seeing no less than Vice President-elect Sara Duterte serving as her special guest during the moving-up ceremony.

It was during then VP candidate Sara’s campaign sortie in Pangasinan that Angel Mae ventured to raise a placard on which the following were written: ‘INDAY WALA AKONG MAMA SA GROWING UP BAKA PWEDE IKAW NA LANG.’

The Vice President had surely seen it.

And so, on Friday morning, the 16-year old Angel Mae got the biggest surprise in her life when the Vice President personally attended the ceremony and acted like her real mother.

In her heart-touching message posted on her Facebook page, the Vice President said: “Si Angel Mae kasama natin sa kampanya sa San Carlos, Pangasinan, nagbigay siya ng sulat sa akin nag-eexplain na kung puwede ako ang umattend sa moving-up ceremony niya dahil OFW ang nanay niya at hindi pa makauwi. Mahal natin si Angel Mae!”

Angel Mae’s mother is currently working in Kuwait, sacrificing living far from her daughter just to earn and support her family back in the Philippines.

She was not denied though of seeing her daughter in one of the greatest moments in her life as she was able to watch Angel Mae being attended by the Vice President in the ceremony through Facebook live.

While watching via Facebook live, the mother was filled with joy and emotion, and could not stop crying while witnessing the moving up ceremony with no less than Vice President-elect Sara representing her.

The proud mother nevertheless had the chance to thank Sara via video call.

Proud mother of Angel Mae posted a video and photos of the moving up ceremony with VP Sara that went viral in social media.

“At the moment @ Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation Special Science High School May 27, 2022/9am ph time, moving up ng anak ko na wala ako pero may nagproxy sakin...Vice President elect of the Republic Of the Philippines Mayor Inday Sara Duterte -Carpio as an attending parent of my daughter...” the mother posted on her Facebook account.

The OFW said VP Sara has her ‘palabra de honor.‘

“Sino mag aakala sa simpleng placard nag umpisa lahat ng ito.. madaling araw dito sa kuwait at nagising lang dahil ayaw ko palagpasin iyong opportunity na makapagpasalamat ng direct kay VP,” the proud mother said.

Angel Mae expressed her gratitude to the Vice President for attending her moving-up ceremony.

"Ma'am maraming maraming salamat po, alam ko pong busy kayo dahil kayo na po ang bagong Vice President at kasalukuyan pa rin po kayong Mayor ng Davao pero talagang pumunta pa po kayo dito," said Angel Mae on Facebook.

The Vice President answered: "Wala yun Angel, simula nung nabasa at nasabi mo sa akin yung moving up mo na sa May 27, talagang block na lahat ng mga event na tatapat sa araw na ito."

Meanwhile, Pangasinan Provincial Police also provided security to the area during the ceremony.

Pangasinan 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas was also amazed at what Angel Mae had during her moving -up.

"Ang tumayong guardian niya, kasama niyang nag-march, nagsabit ng kanyang medalya at kasama pa niyang mag-lunch ay walang iba kundi ang Pangalawang Pangulo ng bansa! Ikaw na Angel!!! Kinabog mo kaming lahat!" Pangasinan 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas posted on her Facebook page.
