2 men tagged in viral kidnapping attempt in Las Piñas nabbed


Police have arrested two suspected kidnappers who were tagged in the viral kidnapping attempt video in Las Piñas City on Wednesday, May 25.

Nabbed were Leonard "Onak" Alfaro, 33; and, George "Mako" Caragdag, Jr., 46.

Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, chief information officer of the Philippine National Police, said the arrest of the two suspects stemmed from the information disclosed by one of the witnesses.

The victim, a 15-year old girl, was seen running away from the vehicle of the suspects. The video was captured in the CCTVs of local residents.

"A concerned citizen identified one of the suspects and this provided leads to police investigators," said Alba.

It was Alfaro who was first arrested in Pamplona Uno in Las Piñas City on Thursday, May 26. . He then squealed the participation of Cargadag who was collared in a follow-up operation the following day.

Seized from them were a hand grenade, a revolver loaded with five bullets, a gun replica, a 9-inch kitchen knife, and a Black Honda Mobilio—the vehicle that was allegedly used during the attempted kidnapping.

Alba said criminal charges were filed against the two suspects. It was not immediately clear why the two tried to abduct the victim.
