Motorcycle-riding elderly man dies after colliding with high-speeding motorcycle


TUAO, Cagayan -- A motorcycle-driving elderly man died after he was hit by another motorcycle along national highway in Bagumbayan on Thursday (May 26).

Cagayan Provincial Police identified the victim as Carmelo Salas, 65, a resident of Brgy. Cato, Tuao, Cagayan.

He was hit by another motorcycle driven by Eduard Azucena, 27, a resident of Bulagao, Tuao, Cagayan.

Police probers said Salas, who was coming from the east direction, was traversing the barangay road and was about to cross the national highway. Azucena, who was allegedly running at a high speed, hit Salas after failing to notice him.

Salas fell on the road and sustained injuries in the different parts of his body.

Both Salas and Azucena were brought to St. Paul Hospital but Carmelo Salas was pronounced dead on arrival, according to Corporal Abraham T Blanche Jr, investigator-on-the- case.

Meanwhile, a rider also died when his motorcycle rammed a van along Luna Street corner Blumentritt Street, Centro 6, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at around 11:33 p.m. on Thursday (May 26).

Ray Francis Gumabay, 33, driver, died while his back rider, Rose Anne Gumabay , 32, was injured. Both are residents of 1246 Dunkin Drive Road, Caggay, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

The driver of the van was identified as Rene Jr. Pajarillo, 24, Marketing Assistant of Bank of Philippine Islands (College Avenue Branch) and resident of Camalaniugan, Cagayan.

Both vehicles were placed under temporary custody of Tuguegarao City Police Station for further investigation.
