UP makes quick work of UE to snap four-game skid

University of the Philippines made quick of the hapless University of the East, 25-23, 26-24, 25-17, to snap its four-game skid in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Thursday, May 26.

Alyssa Bertolano led the Lady Maroons, who improved to a 4-4 record, with 14 points all coming from attacks while Nina Ytang and Jewel Encarnacion chalked up 13 and 10 points, respectively.

UP asserted dominance from the get-go before figuring in a back-and-forth affair in the second frame.

In the third set, however, the Lady Maroons led by as many as eight points, 18-10, and never looked back from that point.

The gap even stretched to nine, 20-11, before the Lady Warriors rebuilt their composure and tried to slice their deficit but to no avail.

"It has been a while. Like I said before, like any other team we struggle, we have to find our rhythm. We want to win, we want to win more games and that’s what we are doing,” said Fighting Maroons head coach Godfrey Okumu.

“The last couple of games yes, we didn’t play well. I hope that from now on we’ll continue fighting for better results just like today."

No Lady Warriors reached double digits as Lia Pelaga and Ja Lana were the highest scorers with eight and seven markers each.

UE remained winless in eight straight matches.
