New lawyers in Mindanao start signing Roll of Attorneys in Cagayan de Oro City

Signing of the Roll of Attorneys in Cagayan de Oro for Mindanao bar passers

The Supreme Court (SC) started in Cagayan de Oro City this morning, May 26, the signing of the Roll of Attorneys by those who passed the 2020-2021 online bar examinations and took their oath as lawyers last May 2.

The roll signing will be done until Saturday, May 28, for the new lawyers in Mindanao at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel.

For new lawyers in the Visayas, the signing of the roll will be from May 30 to June 3 at the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) building in Cebu City.

The new lawyers in the National Capital Region and in Luzon had their signing from May 4 to May 24 at the SC’s offices on Padre Faura Street, Ermita, Manila. Another schedule has been set starting June 6 until June 17.

The signing of the roll is the last step for bar passers to become full-fledged lawyers. The three other steps are earning a law degree, passing the bar, and taking the oath as lawyer, in that order.

The Roll of Attorneys contains the list of all lawyers who are qualified to practice law in the country. As a mandated organization of lawyers, the IBP keeps a copy.

A total of 8,241 out of 11,402 examinees, or 72.28 percent, passed the 2020-2021 first ever online bar examinations.

The success of the online bar examinations held last Feb. 4 and 6 prompted the SC to adopt the digitized and regionalized bar examinations every year thereafter.
