VP-elect Sara Duterte visits Panay Island to thank supporters

ILOILO CITY – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio visited Panay Island Wednesday morning to thank supporters before her proclamation as the vice president-elect in the afternoon.

“A very pleasant surprise that I won in Panay Island,” said Duterte while in Antique.

Outgoing President Duterte’s daughter won in Antique, Aklan, and Capiz, provinces which were previously thought to be a bailiwick of the opposition.

Duterte triumphed over Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan with 111,309 votes in Antique. She won in Capiz with 176,636 votes as well Aklan with 140,172 votes.

In Antique, Duterte met with allies, including re-elected Gov. Rhodora “Dodod” Cadiao as well as outgoing Rep. and Senator-elect Loren Legarda.

After Antique, Duterte proceeded to Passi City in Iloilo. Local officials, including Mayor Stephen Palmares and Vice Mayor Jesry Palmares, hosted Duterte. Unlike other localities in Iloilo, Duterte won in Passi City over Pangilinan.

Duterte also met incumbent Capiz Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras II.
