TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 2 (Cagayan Valley) reported Wednesday, May 25, that 105 erring uniformed personnel in the region have been fired from the police service.
They were also stripped of all their government benefits as part of an internal cleansing campaign in the Philippine National Police (PNP) which started in 2016 when President Duterte assumed office.
A report from the Discipline Law and Order Section (DLOS) said that regional headquarters had the highest number of personnel discharged from the service with 41, followed by the Cagayan Provincial Police Office (PPO) with 18, Isabela PPO, 11; Santiago City Police Office, 10; Nueva Vizcaya PPO, nine; Regional Headquarters Support Group, six; Regional Mobile Force Battalion, five; Quirino PPO, four, and Batanes PPO, one.
DLOS chief Police Major Melchor Aggabao said that majority of the erring policemen were dismissed after they were found guilty of grave misconduct and grave neglect of duty (Absence Without Official Leave). Others were dismissed for conduct unbecoming of an officer.
PRO 2 director Police Brig. Gen. Steve Ludan noted that the huge number of dismissed PNP uniformed personnel was the result of the strict implementation of the intensified PNP internal cleansing campaign in the Cagayan Valley region implemented by the Duterte administration to make the PNP a more accountable and credible organization.
“This is a clear manifestation that we are serious in our desire to cleanse our rank in the PNP and we do not tolerate any member of the Valley cops who violates the law and gets involved in any irregularities and illegal activities,” Ludan said.
