Two robbers arrested at Comelec checkpoint in Cavinti town


KAMPO HEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Sta. Cruz, Laguna -- Two suspected robbers who victimized a restaurant in Luisiana, Laguna were arrested at a Commission on Elections checkpoint set up by the Cavinti Municipal Police Station (MPS) on Monday night at Brgy. Duhat, Cavinti.

Laguna Provincial Office director police Colonel Cecilio Ison Jr. identified the suspects as Ronilo Espinosa, tricycle driver, and resident of Brgy. 28, Kawal St. Caloocan City Lakes, and Arnold Ilagan, promo dizer, and resident of Brgy. Uno, San Juan, Batangas.

An investigation by the Luisiana Philippine National Police revealed that the suspects robbed Chito’s Restaurant in Brgy. San Isidro, Luisiana, Laguna. Police probers said that around 6:47 p.m., the suspects entered the restaurant, aimed a handgun at a cashier and declared a hold-up.

After diverting some cash from the cashier, the robbers rode on motorcycle and fled.

The incident was immediately reported and the Laguna PNP alerted police stations in the neighboring town of Luisiana to conduct a hot pursuit operation.

The Cavinti PNP immediately set up a Comelec checkpoint in Brgy. Duhat in anticipation of catching the fleeing suspects who were described to be wearing black jackets, helmets, and riding a motor star motorcycle without a license plate.

At the Comelec checkpoint, around 7:15 p.m., two men who matched the description passed by, prompting the policemen on duty to arrest them.

Seized from the suspects were a .45 caliber, a magazine with six bullets, a black holster, an OR/CR motorcycle, a blue-colored helmet, and the getaway motorcycle that has no plate number. An amount of P5250 cash they took away from the restaurant had also been recovered.
