P12.8-M illegal drugs seized in Central Visayas police campaign

CEBU CITY – Illegal drugs worth P12.8 million were seized in simultaneous, 24-hour police operations in Central Visayas.

The one-day police operation dubbed “Synchronized Enhanced Managing Police Operation” (SEMPO) also resulted into the arrest of the 604 individuals, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 (Central Visayas) reported.

The series of police operations against the illegal drugs trade, illegal gambling, loose firearms, and crime suspects started at 12:01 a.m. May 21 and ended at 12:01 a.m. on May 22.

Police Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, PRO-7 chief, said 206 warrants of arrest were served while 411 operations against anti-illegal gambling, illegal drugs, and loose firearms were conducted.

Vega said 25 Most Wanted Persons and 181 other wanted persons were arrested.

He said 1,889.67 grams of shabu with an estimated value of P12,849,756 were seized in anti-illegal drug operations.

The PRO-7 added that 233 loose firearms and one explosive were seized.

Two-hundred forty-three persons were arrested while 160 gambling paraphernalia and machines and P24,840 were confiscated in anti-illegal gambling operations.

“SEMPO primarily aims at reducing crimes and improving public safety in the region with the full support and cooperation of the community,” said Vega.
