Barangay councilor shoots younger brother dead for unruly behavior in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY -- A barangay official was wounded after he was reportedly hacked by his younger brother whom he later shot to death due to his unruly behavior in Barangay Basak, Cauayan, Negros Occidental Sunday, May 22.

Freddie Baballero, 51, a barangay councilor of Barangay Basak, sustained a hack wound in his left arm after he was attacked by his younger brother, Richard, also of Barangay Basak.

Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., town police chief, said the barangay official tried to pacify his brother, who was reportedly drunk and creating alarm and scandal.

Indiape said that Richard, who was allegedly armed with a bolo, was supposed to go to a different barangay but was prevented by his elder brother, the barangay official.

Irked, Richard went on to attack his elder brother by hacking him, hitting him in his left arm, Indiape said.

The barangay official then took his .38 caliber revolver and shot Richard, hitting his body twice, the municipal police chief added.

The Baballeros were brought to a hospital, but Richard was declared dead on arrival.

Indiape said the barangay official surrendered and turned over his firearm to the police.

Indiape said the Baballero family has yet to decide if they will file a case.
