The PH men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams yielded two bronze medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games after taking down hosts Vietnam in both divisions on Friday, May 20 at the Tuan Chau Beach, Quang Ninh in Vietnam.
The women’s team dominated their Vietnamese counterparts, 2-0, with the dynamic duo of Sisi Rondina and Bernadette Pons defeating Vu Ngoc Lan Nguyen and Nguyen Le Thi Tuong Vy, 20-22, 21-18, 15-12 and the pair of Jovelyn Gonzaga and Dij Rodriguez clobbering Truong Duong My Huyen and Nguyen Thi Thanh Tram, 21-17 and 21-16.
On the side of the men’s team, the Filipinos eked out a 2-1 win as Jude Garcia and Krung Arbasto delivered a 21-19, 21-19 victory over Nhat Ton Long and Nguyen Van Nha.
The combination of Garcia and Jaron Requinton also came out on top, 21-15, 21-19 against Nguyen Lam Toi andTrang Quang, making up for the earlier 19-21, 18-21 loss of Ranran Abdilla and Requinton to the same Vietnamese pair.
Thailand retained its double gold in beach volley event while both Indonesian teams in the men’s and women’s finished second.
