Couple shot dead in front of Aparri cemetery in Cagayan


Aparri, Cagayan -- A couple was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-riding attackers in front of Aparri Public Cemetery along Rizal Street, Brgy. Maura this town on Thursday (May 19).

The Cagayan Provincial Police identified victims as Samuel Soliven,73, and his wife Teresita Soliven, 69, both engaged in business.

Police said that around 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, the victims were on board in their tricycle (kulung-kulung) and traversing Rizal Street, Brgy. Maura, Aparri, Cagayan, when they were shot by gunmen amid a heavy rain.

The perpetrators allegedly overtook and fired gunshots towards the victims several times using unidentified firearms.

Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies. The perpetrators fled towards the east direction.

The responding police officers rushed the victims to Charles W. Selby Memorial Hospital (Christian Hospital) in Brgy. Punta, Aparri, Cagayan but were declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

Members of the Aparri Police Station immediately conducted hot pursuit operations for possible apprehension of the suspects and requested SOCO assistance to process the crime scene, according to Corporal Marvin Diaz, investigator-on-case.
