Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the collected election campaign tarpaulins will be recycled into eco-bags, laundry bags, aprons, and other items that will help in the livelihood program of the city government and barangays.
Olivarez ordered the dismantling of election campaign materials the day after the election on May 9 all over the city to maintain its cleanliness and rid the city of eyesores.
Bernie Amurao, head of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), said they were able to collect a total of 247 tons of election campaign materials which were brought to the city's material recovery facility (MRF) in Barangay La Huerta.
Amurao said five tons of tarpaulins were left at the MRF to be converted into eco-bags, laundry and small bags, and aprons for use in the markets.
He said the 242 tarpaulins were distributed to barangays to help them in their livelihood program in recycling garbage into useful materials.
The CENRO chief said the bamboos collected were also distributed to barangays for use in their urban gardening.
Amurao said Olivarez also joined and worked with them in removing all the election paraphernalia around the city on the second day of their clean-up drive.
