Muntinlupa City Council commends police for peaceful polls


The Muntinlupa City Council approved a resolution lauding the city police for securing the conduct of the national and local elections on May 9.

According to Majority Floor Leader Raul Corro, councilors adopted a resolution during their regular session on Monday, May 16, “commending the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Muntinlupa City under the leadership of City Police Chief, Col. Angel Garcillano for its exemplary display of professionalism, non-partisanship, and dedication to duty in facilitating the conduct of an honest, orderly, peaceful, and credible elections in the City of Muntinlupa.”

According to the resolution, President Rodrigo Duterte issued Memorandum Order No. 59 on Dec. 31 to deputize the Armed Forces of the Philippines, PNP, and other law enforcement agencies to assist the Commission on Elections (Comelec) “in the conduct of a free, honest, orderly, peaceful, and credible elections.”

It added that during the election period, PNP-Muntinlupa “oversaw and enforced peace and order measures and protocols to ensure the conduct of a free, honest, peaceful, orderly, and credible elections in the entire city.”

The City Council lauded the Muntinlupa police for displaying “exemplary professionalism and dedication to duty and acted without partisanship before, during and after the elections, thus, paving the way for the people of Muntinlupa to exercise their right and duty to choose and elect their leaders freely and voluntarily.”

The resolution noted that “the May 9, 2022 elections in Muntinlupa City was conducted without any violence or any other untoward incident that would have marred its conduct, thus, allowing the Muntinlupa electorate to express their true will in the choice of the new national and local officials who will lead our country in the next three or six years.”
