‘Bridgerton’ season three will all be about Penelope and Colin

Calling all Team #Polin

After witnessing the romance between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) and the love story of Anthony Bridgeton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma in the past seasons, the third installment of the Netflix series “Bridgerton” is set to focus on another Bridgerton sibling. This time, all eyes will be on Colin Bridgeton (Luke Newton), showrunner confirms.

Through a post by Netflix, the fictional Lady Whistledown shares the news about the show’s third season, with Colin and Penelope Featherington’s (Nicola Coughlan) budding relationship taking the spotlight.

“With Penelope’s days as a wallflower wearing thin, will she finally take bloom? Time will tell, and as always, so will this author,” Lady Whistledown ends her letter.

Before the end of season one, it was revealed to the viewers that Penelope is the person behind Lady Whistledown. While it remained a secret for a while, Penelope admitted to Genevieve Delacroix (Kathryn Drysdale), the sought-after modiste by the Ton, that she is the author behind the social pamphlet and got the dressmaker to be her accomplice in the sophomore season. Later on, Penelope’s best friend, Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), figures out who she is, which terminated their friendship.

“I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since season one, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people,” Jess Brownell, new showrunner of “Bridgerton,” tells Variety. “I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”

In Julia Quinn’s “Bridgerton” novel series, the fourth book dubbed “Romancing Mister Bridgerton” follows the two’s journey to love and will likely be the source material for the upcoming season. There, it was Colin who first knew the real identity of the gossip columnist, making it the first time readers got to know who Lady Whistledown really is.
