BI resumes biometric screening, fingerprinting for arriving foreigners

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has restored the biometric screening and fingerprinting for arriving foreign nationals.

The operations were suspended for two years at the height of Covid-19 to lessen physical contact between immigration officers and foreign passengers to curb the possibility of catching the deadly virus.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the operations were resumed after health authorities placed Metro Manila and large part of the country under Alert Level 1.

The BI chief said in a memorandum that biometric capturing and fingerprinting also covered aliens renewing visa and other immigration transactions.

Morente also said that the agency will also resume the issuance of Immigration Clearance Certificate to those staying in the country for six months and more.
