Pangasinan Provincial Police identified the dead victim as Joanna Domantay, a Grade 8 student. Her eight-year old sister Joyce, Grade 2 pupil, was wounded.

Belated report had it that the sisters decided to take a bath in the rain at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Minutes later, a lightning struck an acacia tree near the victims.

As it turned out, the two girls were also hit by the lightning. The two were immediately rushed by their father Jessie Domantay to Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in Brgy. Bolingit, San Carlos City.

Joanna Domantay was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician while the other one was injured, according to Staff Sergeant Ryan DC Sabangan, investigator on case.

“Malakas ang ulan at ang mga bata ay labis na natuwa at naligo dahil na rin siguro sa sobrang init ng panahon sa Pangasinan, di naman inakala marahil na malakas ang kidlat at tatamaan din sila,” a resident said.
