Over 40 students graduate from NAVOTAAS

Forty-eight technical and vocational (tech-voc) courses students from the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute graduated on Friday, May 13.

Among those who completed their courses were 21 trainees who received national certification (NC) II for Barista, 35 students for Basic Visual Graphic Design, and seven for Housekeeping, the Navotas City government said.

"More and more Navoteños see the importance of tech-voc training. Since January this year, 240 have graduated from NAVOTAAS Institute and another batch is set to complete their training this May. We will strive to offer more courses as we prepare for the establishment of the Tanza Airport Support Services," Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

The NAVOTAAS Institute has four training centers that offer different tech-voc courses under the Technical Education and Skills development Authority (TESDA) including Automotive Servicing, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Beauty Care, Hairdressing, Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Beverage Services, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Japanese and Korean Language and Culture, and others.

According to the local government, the training centers are open for both Navotenos and non-Navotenos, where city residents may study for free.

The institute also provides allowances and tool kits to the students under the Training for Work Scholarship (TWSP) and Special Training for Employment Programs, which are funded by the national government and coordinated through the office of the city’s Lone District Representative and Mayor-elect John Rey Tiangco.

“We have seen the benefits of tech-voc education that is why we built training centers and offered highly-sought courses. We want Navoteños to have more employment and livelihood opportunities through free skills training and TESDA certification,” Rep. Tiangco said.
