Oops! Power supply fluctuates at PICC while Comelec canvasses COCs

The national canvassing of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc for the senatorial and partylist elections was temporarily affected by the fluctuation of power supply at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on Sunday, May 15.

The Comelec en banc, which sits as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), was on its sixth day of canvassing of certificates of canvass (COCs) when some of the lighting suddenly went out around 4 p.m.

“The sudden fluctuation of power supply was caused by the NGCP [National Grid Corporation of the Philippines,” the Comelec said.

Despite the incident, the canvassing of the COCs pushed through with Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan presiding over the canvassing.

The Comelec said that it will wait for an advisory from the NGCP to determine what caused the power supply fluctuation.

Prior to this, heavy rainfall was reported in Metro Manila.
