Farr settles for bronze in men's cycling downhill

John Derrick Farr settled for a bronze medal in the men’s cycling downhill event of the 31st Southeast Asian Games held Sunday, May 15 in Hoa Binh City, Vietnam.

The gold medalist in the 2019 event held in Laurel, Batangas posted a time of three minutes and 13.138 seconds, but couldn’t get past Thailand’s Methasit Boonsane and Indonesia’s Andy Prenoga.

Methasit took the gold after crossing the finish line at 3:06.27 while Prenoga was three seconds slower to claim silver during the race held at a 2.0-kilometer track carved over a hill.

A flat tire at the first drop, as described in a pool story sent to media publications back in Manila, denied Lee Denise Belgira a shot at retaining the gold in the women’s side.

Belgira did complete the race, receiving an applause from the crowd upon reaching the start/finish line.

Compatriot Naomi Gardoce would claim the bronze at 3:44.722, joining winner Tiara Andino Priastika of Indonesia and Thailand’s Vipavee Deekaballes at the podium.

Priastika won at 3:31.531 while Deekaballes was second at 3:42.337.
