Farmers’ group pledges to continuously fight against disinformation

Peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), on Sunday, May 15, said that they will continuously fight against disinformation, adding that they look forward to intensifying the work of making the truth prevail.

The statement came after Vice President (VP) Leni Robredo’s thanksgiving event held at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City on Friday, May 13, where she told her supporters to be the “movement that will defend truth.”

“Count us in! We farmers have long suffered against lies and deception, especially from the Marcos-Duterte camp. We are glad that VP Leni and more Filipinos are continually standing for the truth,” said KMP Chairperson Danilo Ramos in a press statement.

Ramos also reiterated that farmers have long suffered from lies and deception. The peasant leader then refuted Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s claims that former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s Masagana 99, Presidential Decree 27 were successful.

“These programs wrecked the Philippine agriculture so hard we still suffer from their effects up to now,” said Ramos. He likewise slammed President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to establish the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), calling him “equally culpable of mass deception.”

Meanwhile, the farmers’ group urged Filipinos to participate in ending disinformation and to be the vessel of truth.

“We look forward to resuming and intensifying the work of making truth prevail... we enjoin everyone to speak the truth on all platforms and no longer allow the preponderance of flagrant falsehoods,” Ramos concluded.
