De La Salle makes quick work of winless UE to end skid


De La Salle made quick work of the hapless University of the East, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15, to get back in the win column in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena in Pasay City Saturday, May 14.

Alleiah Malaluan, Fifi Sharma, and Jolina Dela Cruz proved to be too much for the Lady Warriors as the trio propelled the Lady Spikers to a 3-2 record.

Malaluan led De La Salle's balanced attack with 11 attacks, two service aces, and a block for 14 points while Sharma and Dela Cruz scored 10 points apiece.

Thea Gagate added nine markers with two blocks and Leila Cruz had seven points for the Lady Spikers.

"'Yong ame kasi namin galing kami sa talo so struggle talaga. We’re still trying to get that rhythm so nagkataon na ito 'yong irst step namin to going back doon sa hinahanap namin playing against UE," ” said De La Salle assistant coach Benson Bocboc. "Nag-deliver naman most of the players, maganda 'yong naging resulta."

The Lady Spikers showed dominance from the get-go and had total control of their tempo after leading by as many as 10 points in the first two sets.

Come the third and final canto, De La Salle rebuilt an eight-point cushion, 21-13, and the lead was too much to overcome for UE.

The Lady Spikers pulled away for good as Ynna Hatulan and Julia Coronel wrapped it up for the green and white.

Janeca Lana spearheaded the Lady Warriors anew, who remained winless in five games, with 11 points all coming from attacks while Ercae Nieva chalked up a service ace and nine spikes for 10 markers.
