MMDA collects 252 tons of campaign materials in NCR so far

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has so far collected at least 252 tons of campaign materials since it started its dismantling operations in the National Capital Region (NCR) since Tuesday, May 10.

MMDA Chairman Romando Arters said they will continue their operations until such time that roadsides and other public places are cleared of campaign materials of national and local candidates.

"We will also hep sort out to determine which of these campaign materials could be recycled," said Artes.

Based on the MMDA data, its personnel collected 98 tons or 28 truckloads of campaign materials on May 10.

The following day, a total of 154 tons or 43 truckloads were dismantled.

Artes said the plastic campaign materials will be transported to the Vitas Pumping Station wherein Solid Waste Granulator and Brick-Making Facility of the MMDA are located.

"These will be destroyed and turned into materials that could be used to make bricks," said Artes.

He said they are also coordinating with the Eco Waste Coaliton to discuss proper disposal and recycling of the campaign materials.
