Mayor Binay presents IFP accomplishments at ICLEI meeting


Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Wednesday, May 11, presented the accomplishments of the Southeast Asian members of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) in the recently concluded Global Executive Committee meeting of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability held in Malmö, Sweden.

According to the Makati local government, Binay, as the Southeast Asia Representative to the ICLEI Global Executive Committee and Chairman of the Innovative Financing Portfolio (IFP), presented seven projects that received technical assistance for their project development and 22 were pitched to potential technical and financial partners during the Transformative Actions Program or TAP pitch events.

"The portfolio also worked on and published three case studies on successful TAP stories in Merida in Mexico, Palmas in Brazil, and Doumé in Cameroon," the local government said.

ICLEI is a global network of more than 2500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. It is active in more than 125 countries wherein it influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development.

It also makes sustainability an integral part of urban development and creates systemic change in urban areas through practical, integrated solutions.

The network responds to help cities, towns and regions anticipate and solve complex challenges, from rapid urbanization and climate change, to ecosystem degradation and inequity.

ICLEI said that the local and regional governments in its network confront the said challenges by incorporating sustainability into day-to-day operations and policy.
