Magnitude 4.0 quake hits Davao Oriental – Phivolcs


An earthquake with a magnitude measuring 4.0 hit waters off Davao Oriental around 8:23 p.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Thursday, May 12.

The epicenter of the quake was traced 187 kilometers (km) southeast of Tarragona, Davao Oriental. It was tectonic in origin, indicating that it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs said that no aftershocks may occur due to this quake.
