After 24 years, Abalos Sr. returns as Mandaluyong mayor


Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. was elected anew as mayor of Mandaluyong City after 24 years.

Abalos Sr. was proclaimed by Comelec after achieving a landslide victory against his opponent, Florencio Solomon.

Abalos Sr. garnered 137,311 votes while Solomon got 24,546 votes.

Abalos Sr. was first elected as Mandaluyong mayor in 1988 and got re-elected three times before ending his term in 1998.

Meanwhile, his daughter-in-law, incumbent Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos, easily won the vice mayoral race as she ran unopposed. She garnered 149,205 votes.

Neptali Gonzales III has also maintained his spot as the city's congressman after receiving 132,204 votes against Roehl Bacar’s 36,825 votes.
