Woman nabbed in QC for swindling election candidates


A woman was arrested by the police in Quezon City on Friday, May 6, after she allegedly swindled P10,000 cash from five election candidates for local posts in North Luzon.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Cubao station (PS 7) Commander Lt. Col. Elizabeth Jasmin, identified the suspect as Aisha Noreen Estrada Verano, 54, from Cubao, Quezon City and the chairwoman of United Muslim Lumad Inter Faith.

According to the police report, Verano and her two male cohorts were able to recruit a total of 40 candidates during their stay in Bauang, La Union, who believed that they are connected to a presidential aspirant who will provide election funds.

The suspects asked P2,000 registration fee from each victims for them to get the said funds.

Police said that the suspects then met with five of the victims at a food park located along Gen. Roxas Street, Brgy. Socorro, Cubao at around 6 a.m on May 6, to collect the registration fees.

The victims immediately asked for help from the police after they realized that they have been deceived by the trio which led to Verano’s arrest on the same day.

According to the police, some of the 40 victims already gave their fees to the suspects last April 29.

Verano will be charged for violation of Article 315 of the revised Penal Code also known as swindling or estafa.

A manhunt operation is being conducted to locate Verano’s cohorts.
