House, Senate ready to receive first batch of COCs, election returns—Sotto

Vice presidential candidate and Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Monday, May 9 said the Senate and House of Representatives are ready to receive the first few copies of election returns and certificates of canvass (COCs) that would be sent to Congress itself.

According to Sotto, some of these would be brought to the Senate first then transmitted to Congress later on.

Sotto said he and House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco would be waiting tonight for the first set of documents and will wait until Tuesday morning for more to arrive.

“Of course, we expect that those who are near or within the National Capital Region (NCR) will reach us first,” Sotto told reporters in an interview after casting his vote at Vicente Castelo Sotto III at the White Plains Covered Court in Quezon City at around 9:30 a.m.

Sotto also said that whatever happens, he and his running mate, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who is gunning for the presidency, would prove the preferential surveys wrong after this elections.

“Oh yes, because it’s impossible that we will get zero...I am confident he (Lacson) won’t get zero votes in the Visayas and Mindanao,” Sotto stressed.
