Comelec reports fast replacement of VCMs, SD cards

Despite various reports related to the delay regarding the arrival of replacement Vote Counting Machines (VCMs), Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, reported on Monday, May 9 that the conduct of the replacement has been swift.

This goes the same for SD cards, Casquejo said. He stated that those being reported are merely "isolated cases" which will not affect the integrity of the elections.

All clustered precincts have completed the final testing and sealing, Casquejo also reported that 817 VCMs were reported to be defective, all of which have already been repaired and shall be considered as contingency machines.

Contingency machines are now at 1,900 which he said will make replacements to be conducted faster.

"So kapag may (if we have) issue po tayo in our VCMS, mabilis na po (it can be handled quickly) because we're going to replace using the contingency machines," he said.

During the FTS as well, there were 235 SD cards which were already replaced, Casquejo stated.

As of 12 p.m. defective VCMs were 143, and 124 for SD cards.
