Vice President Leni Robredo and her spokesman Barry Gutierrez will file a case at the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office on Friday, May 6, against online news site journalnews.com.ph for publishing “false statements” against them.
“To all those on my case about filing a case: Will be filing a complaint affidavit tomorrow, May 6, 10:30 a.m., at the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office against those responsible for a false news report against me and VP Leni,” Gutierrez said in a tweet.
He added that “more details” will be provided after they file the case on Friday.
Robredo is not expected to attend the filing of the case since she will be in her home region of Bicol for the final leg of her campaign.
In a media advisory, Gutierrez said that he will file a complaint affidavit “against a writer, and the owner, and publisher of journalnews.com.ph for violation of the Cybercrime Law in relation to false statements contained in a news article that appeared in the said publication.”
A news article published on journalnews.com.ph on April 21 said that exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison admitted to being a key contributor of Robredo’s campaign.

The article also alleged that Sison is acting as an adviser to Gutierrez.
Gutierrez and even Sison denied the news article.

Robredo has faced red-tagging allegations numerous times in the past, but this last has directly linked her to the exiled Communist Party founder.
