50 priests in the Diocese of Antipolo back Leni-Kiko tandem


The clergy of the Diocese of Antipolo has declared its support for the candidacy of presidential bet Vice President Leni Robredo and her vice presidential running mate Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan.

In the ‘Statement of support for VP Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan by the clergy of the Diocese of Antipolo” which was posted on the official Facebook page of the Antipolo Diocese, the Antipolensis-Roman Catholic Diocese of Antipolo’, the names of 50 priests including two monsignors also appeared in the statement.

In the statement, the Antipolo clergy said that after making careful discernment of the candidates for the May 9, 2022 election, it believes that the two candidates possess the qualities of a good leader.

The group said the two both value honesty, pursue the way of truth, show integrity in their personal lives, and demonstrate determination towards transparency and accountability in public service.

They also have good track records in empowering the poor and offer clear platforms for the employment, health, education and well-being of every Filipino.

The group added that the Leni-Kiko tandem bears the hope of inclusion of every Filipino, rich and poor alike, in their developmental plans for the country by listening to every sector of society and considering the needs of everyone.

The clergy said Robredo and Pangilinan are morally upright and have shown concrete examples in upholding and defending human dignity and the right to a better life of every Filipino with their clear solutions on poverty alleviation.”

“We fervently hope and pray that the Light of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Voyager, the Our Lady of Antipolo, continue to guide us in discerning what is right and true in this election,” part of the statement reads.

The group of priests is also calling on the faithful to listen and trust in their conscience and embrace the sanctity of every Filipino vote.

There are about 80 priests serving in the diocese, according to a source.

“I prefer that the Church is neutral so that it will not be used in politics,” the source said.
