Various law enforcement agencies in Region 7 ready for Monday’s polls

CEBU CITY -- At least 2,000 personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection-Central Visayas (BFP-7) and Philippine Coast Guard-7 (PCG-7) will be deployed to secure the conduct of elections in Region 7 on May 9.

The various law enforcement agencies showed their readiness to secure the upcoming elections during the send-off ceremony on Wednesday morning at the South Road Properties here.

“Today, we demonstrate our operational readiness and capabilities of our force and resources with this ceremonial turnover of the security and augmentation forces with our partner representatives from the Coast Guard and Armed Forces,” said Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, regional director of the Police Regional Office 7.

Vega said authorities guarantee that “a safe, stable and peaceful environment is provided for an effective electoral process.”

As PRO 7 chief, Vega reminded his men to maintain professionalism and to be non-partisan.

“Bear in mind that we play an important part in this significant and historic political exercise,” said Vega.

“Our commitment and dedication to our task will definitely assure the voting public that we are well prepared in implementing security plans and programs especially in addressing any plot to manipulate this election,” added Vega.

Vega also reminded his men to ensure that health protocols will be strictly observed during the elections to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Vega added that tight security measures will continue even after the elections.

“We will not only prepare for the actual election day but we must also be alert and on our toes on possible scenarios that will take place even during the post-election days,” Vega said.
