Mayoral supporter escapes gun attack in Zambo town

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A government worker who is also a supporter of the incumbent mayor escaped a gun attack at Langilan, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur on Monday, May 2.

A report from the Police Regional Office-9 identified the victim as Ruel Tomo Mogalin, 46, who was shot several times by an unidentified suspect using an M16 rifle.

The report said the victim was riding his motorcycle towards the San Miguel Municipal Hall when he was attacked.

Mogalin was unharmed and was brought to the San Miguel Municipal Police Station for investigation.

Police found 15 empty shells of an M16 rifle at the crime scene.

Police suspect the incident to be politically motivated upon knowing that the victim is a supporter of incumbent mayor Angelito Martinez.

Martinez is currently running for vice mayor in San Miguel municipality. Authorities are investigating the shooting incident, especially since the national elections are just four days away.
