'Let there be light': Sotto solves decades-old power supply problem in Pasig

Incumbent Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said on Monday, May 2, that some of Pasig City's decades-old lack of electricity problems in some areas and barangays have now been resolved and urged the public to vote for officials who truly care for the city and Pasigueños in the upcoming May 9 elections.

In his Facebook post, Sotto recalled some of his administration's achievements in "electrifying" barangays and areas in Pasig which have endured years of having inadequate to no electricity at all.

"Villa Cruzis. Sa mahabang panahon, walang sariling linya ng kuryente ang mga residente rito. Matatandaan ang 'placard moment' ng ating matapang na konsi Quin Cruz nung April 2019. Ayaw kasi aprubahan noon ang Right of Way ng Meralco na dadaan lang din naman sa lupa ng LGU (Local Government Unit) (Villa Cruzis. For the longest time, the residents of this area did not have supply of electricity. There was the so called "placard moment" of our brave councilor Quin Cruz in April 2019 due to the right of way issue of Meralco that will also pass through the land owned by the LGU)," Sotto said.

"Pagkaupo nung July 2019, inayos namin ang right of way. Nakapasok ang One Meralco Foundation, at nung November 28, 2019, na-'electrify' ang Villa Cruzis at GK Napico (When we were appointed in July 2019, we immediately fixed the right of way issue. One Meralco Foundation successfully entered and on November 28, 2019, we have 'electrified' the areas of Villa Cruzis and GK Napico)," he added.

The mayor said that aside from Manggahan, large communities such as the ones located in the riverside of Maybunga and Rosario have been given stable electricity.

Last February 11, 68 households in Tabing-Ilog, Barangay Rosario in Pasig City now have legal power connections after 30 years of experiencing unstable electricity through the efforts of the Pasig City local government and the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).

Around P1.4 million was allotted for the project which enabled the residents of the area to acquire their own meter installations at a cheaper price, paying only P758.

On November 12 of last year, a total of 27 households and 50 families in the village of Samahang Maralitang Tabing Ilog (SMTI) in Barangay Maybunga who have endured 20 years of having insufficient supply of electricity, finally benefited from the installation of power lines by the LGU and other private and government entities.

"Mga dekada nang problema katulad nito, unti-unti nating nagagawan ng solusyon. Isipin natin kung ano pa ang magagawa kung sa susunod na term ay magiging aktibo at kaisa natin ang Vice Mayor at mga Konsehal (These are examples of decade-old problems that are slowly getting resolved. Let's just imagine what more can be done in the following term if the vice mayor and councilors are also active in working towards a better future for Pasigueños)," Sotto said.

Running in the upcoming elections with Sotto are Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr. for vice mayor and Congressman Roman Romulo who is seeking reelection.

The team’s candidates for councilor for District 1 are: Mark Gil “Volta” Delos Santos, Roderick “Eric” Gonzales, Raymund “Kiko” Rustia, Paul Roman “Pao” Santiago, Paul Senogat, and Simon Romulo Tantoco.

For District 2: Noel “Buboy” Agustin, Quin “Kin” Cruz, Maria Luisa “Angelu” De Leon, Marion “Mato” Martires, and Corazon “Corie” Raymundo.
