Eleazar backs insurance policy for college students amid return to education normalcy

Senatorial candidate Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar has expressed support to the plan of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) to have a health insurance policy for students.

Eleazar issued the statement after CHEd chairperson Prospero De Vera met with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease and other officials from universities to discuss the health insurance policy.

He said the health insurance policy could be of great help to ensure the wellness of students amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This is an important measure amid the pandemic when we are facing health concerns especially with the resumption of face-to-face classes," said Eleazar.

"This is one of the measures that I would fight to have a budget if given the chance to be elected," he added.

Eleazar said an additional budget for the Department of Health and the Department of Education could finance this insurance policy. He added that the Department of Budget and Management should also determine where the government could get the fund.

Protecting the health of the general public is among the priority measures of Eleazar should he win in the coming elections.

Eleazar is also eyeing to provide health insurance to other sectors including barangay workers, mass transport drivers and riders, and security guards.
