Locate and inoculate: Eleazar urges gov't to prioritize vaccination of 1.8M unvaccinated seniors

Senatorial candidate Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar urged the national government to locate and inoculate the remaining 1.8 million unvaccinated senior citizens amid the threat of another Omicron subvariant of Covid-19.

"With the confirmation of the entry of a new subvariant of Omicron in the country, we really need to ramp up the vaccination and the focus should be on the inoculation of the primary shots and the booster shots for the vulnerable sectors to prepare for a possible surge of COVID-19 in May," said Eleazar.

Based on the latest data, there are still 1.8 million senior citizens who remain unvaccinated.

This subvariant is about 2.5 times more transmissible than the original Omicron variant, according to DOH.

Eleazar explained that these sectors – healthcare workers, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals – are the most crucial since they have the “burden of death.”

Eleazar also urged the public to continue obeying the minimum public health standards to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19, which, the DOH said, could happen in mid-May.
