MB Daily News Update: 8 areas in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur placed under Comelec control

With less than two weeks before the May polls, six municipalities in Maguindanao, and a city and a municipality in Lanao del Sur have been placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) because of serious threats of political violence, presence of armed groups, and threats coming from terrorist groups.

Despite a Supreme Court (SC) ruling reversing its decision to deny the registration of party-list group Igorot Warriors International (IWI) to be able to participate in the upcoming polls, the Comelec said the IWI will only be able to join the next political exercise.

Meanwhile, frontrunning presidential bets Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and Vice President Leni Robredo had successful campaign sorties in Cagayan de Oro and Occidental Mindoro, respectively, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
