Former senator and Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero remains one of the leading candidates for the 2022 elections, according to a latest poll survey released less than two weeks before the national elections on May 9.
Based on Laylo’s national survey conducted from April 14 to 20, 39 percent of 3,000 likely voters said they would vote for Escudero if the May 2022 election were held during the survey period.
Escudero, the only incumbent governor running for senator, ranked 4th to 6th in the pre-listed senatorial candidates.
Aside from Laylo, the former lawmaker has also consistently topped other pollster surveys. In the latest Public Asia, released last April 25, Escudero ranked No. 1 with 46.8 percent of the 1,500 respondents.
Escudero is also a popular choice among students to win the senatorial race, according to separate campus mock polls conducted by at least 36 colleges and universities across the country.
If he succesfully makes a Senate comeback, Escudero vowed to focus on giving more autonomy to local government units (LGUs), ensure the judicious and prudent utilization of the annual budget, and help transition the pandemic-weary economy to recovery, among others.
