‘Kandidato ng mga magbubukid’: Farmers, food security frontliners back Leni-Kiko

In time for Vice President Leni Robredo’s 57th birthday, peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) expressed their support to Robredo and her running mate Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan for the upcoming May 2022 polls.

"Para kaming nagtahip ng gintong palay at naihiwalay na namin ang ipa sa butil ng bigas. Ganito ang naging pagsala namin sa napiling mga kandidato ng mga magbubukid -- sina Leni at Kiko (It is as if we have sifted golden rice and separated the chaff from the rice grain. This is how we screened the selected candidates of the farmers – Leni and Kiko)," said KMP Chairperson Danilo Ramos in a press statement on Saturday, April 23.

The peasant group also launched a video series dubbed as "Bakit sina Leni at Kiko ang pinili ng mga magsasaka (Why did the farmers choose Leni and Kiko?),” explaining that Leni and Kiko tandem are the “most fitting choice” for President and Vice President, respectively.

“The platforms of VP Leni and Senator Kiko concerning the development of local agriculture and protection of farmers' rights resonate well with peasant organizations and food security advocates nationwide,” said Ramos.

Meanwhile, presidential hopeful VP Robredo recently received three historic endorsements from various groups in the Philippines.

These endorsements include support from around 1,043 members of the Catholic clergy across the country, labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and its political party, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).
