‘Historic first’: Labor group endorses Leni-Kiko

Labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) officially endorsed Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan for the May 2022 polls.

KMU chairperson and senatorial bet Elmer Labog, in a tweet, said that this is the first time that the group endorsed presidential and vice presidential candidates.

“Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon sa kasaysayan nito, nag-endorso ang KMU ng kandidato para sa presidente at bise presidente. Masaya kami sa KMU na i-endorso, i-kampanya, at ipanalo sina Leni Robredo at Kiko Pangilinan (For the first time in its history, the KMU has endorsed a presidential and vice presidential candidate for the national elections. We, the KMU, are happy to endorse, campaign for, and let VP Leni Robredo Senator Kiko Pangilinan win),” said Labog.

Meanwhile, the labor group also reiterated that the election is an important platform for the public’s calls and requests towards the betterment of the Philippines.

“Subalit tumatakbo rin ngayon ang tambalang Marcos-Duterte na kumakatawan sa pinakamasahol na tipo ng pamumuno sa gobyerno (However, the Marcos-Duterte tandem, which embodies the worst type of governance, is also running),” said KMU in a press statement on Friday, April 22.

This allegation, according to the organization, was based on the candidates’ and their family’s track record of stealing, cronyism, and violating human rights.

With this, the union said that it will “actively campaign” for the Leni-Kiko tandem and “defeat” the Marcos-Duterte alliance.
