Cayetano leads survey for mayor in Taguig; close race for vice mayor

Taguig 2nd District Rep. Lani Cayetano of the Nacionalista Party topped the survey for mayor in the city.

This is according to polling firm Publicus, which announced the results of its “Pahayag NCR Tracker” for April for mayoral and vice mayoral races in Metro Manila.

The survey was conducted from April 8 to 13 among 1,625 registered voters in Metro Manila. A total of 100 respondents were asked in Taguig and 14 other cities, while 49 respondents were asked in Pateros and 76 in San Juan.

The survey sample was provided by PureSpectrum, a US-based panel marketplace. The sample-wide margin of error is +/- 3%. The city-level margin of error for most cities is +/- 10 percent, +/- 12 percent in San Juan, and +/- 14 percent in Pateros.

Cayetano, sister-in-law of incumbent Mayor Lino Cayetano, is running for mayor against former Taguig-Pateros congressman Arnel Cerafica of the Partido Pilipino sa Pagbabago (PPP), who served for three terms from 2010 to 2019.

In the latest survey for mayor, Cayetano grabbed first place with 68 percent, a decrease of eight percentage points compared to 76 percent she got in Publicus’ March 16 to 21 survey, and down seven percentage points from 75 percent in the Feb. 18 to 24 survey.

Cerafica received 13 percent, an increase of two percentage points from 11 percent he got in the March and February surveys.

The undecided voters in Taguig totaled 17 percent, an increase of five percentage points from 12 percent in March, and four percentage points from 13 percent in February.

For vice mayor, candidates Councilor Arvin Alit, Cayetano’s running mate, and Janelle Cerafica of PPP and wife of Arnel, are running neck and neck.

In the latest survey, Alit got 34 percent, only two percentage points higher than Cerafica’s 32 percent. The undecided voters totaled 28 percent.

Publicus categorized Taguig’s vice mayoral race as a “battleground” with the two candidates statistically tied for first place.

The polling firm said in races where the margin or edge is 20 points or less, the “candidates statistically tied for first place.”

In the latest survey, Alit lost nine percentage points from 43 percent in the March survey while Cerafica increased by two percentage points from 30 percent in March.
