The damage left by tropical depression "Agaton" to agriculture has doubled to P2.8 billion based on the latest assessment of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
In an assessment report released on Thursday, April 21, the DA said the damage covers a volume of production of 89 metic tons and affected more than 64,000 farmers.
The damage also covered more than 31,6090 hectares or agricultural land in Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Central Mindanao and the Caraga region.
"Affected commodities include rice, corn, high value crops, livestock, and fisheries. Damage has also been incurred in agricultural infrastructures, machineries and equipment," the statement read.
"The increase in overall damage and losses is due to additional reports on rice, corn, high value crops, livestock, agri-facilities, machineries and equipment in Western and Eastern," it added.
"Agaton" caused widespread flooding and a number of landslides.The landslides were mostly in Leyte.
Based on the latest report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 178 people died while 111 others missing. Almost all of the casualties were from Leyte and due to landslides that wiped out several residential areas.
