Happy birthday Allan!: Aklan cops buy cake for fugitive who was arrested on his birthday

It was supposed to be an ordinary booking procedures for Allan Barrientos delos Angeles who was arrested on Tuesday, April 19, in Barangay Caticlan in Malay Aklan.

But when police investigators of Altavas Municipal Police Station in Aklan saw on the identification card that it was Delos Angeles' 44th birthday on the day of his arrest, they came up with the idea to somehow relieve his stress.

"We had no idea that it was his birthday and we only knew it when we saw it on his identification card. So we asked him and then he told us that it was indeed his birthday," said Police Lt. Ryan Batadlan, officer-in-charge of the Altavas Municipal Police Station.

Batadlan told the Manila Bulletin that Delos Angeles appeared to have no idea that two cases were filed against him in 1999 and an arrest warrant was issued against him in 2000.

The incident, according to the police official, happened in Bataraza town in Palawan.

Cases of illegal possession of firearms and frustrated murder were filed against him and as the time went by, he became the most wanted person of Bataraza town.

Batadlan said Delos Angeles was collared at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Barangay Caticlan. He was immediately transported to Altavas police station for the mandatory booking procedures.

"After we learned that it was his birthday yesterday (April 19), we chipped in some money to buy a cake for him," said Batadlan.

"We gave it to him and he was very thankful. The cake was shared here in celebration of his birthday," he added.

Batadlan said they expect Delos Angeles to be released as the P260,000 bail for his temporary liberty is already being prepared by his relatives.
