‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ trailer gives first look at Natalie Portman as new Thor

Thor, the might god of thunder, is back! Marking his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the release of the teaser for the upcoming film, “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as the son of Odin, but unlike in the past “Thor” movies, the former King of Asgard is on a journey to finding inner peace.

“These hands were once used for battle, now they're but humble tools for peace,” Thor says in the teaser. “I need to figure out exactly who I am.”

With Guns N' Roses' 1987 song “Sweet Child O' Mine” playing in the background, the trailer gives fans a view of what happened to Thor after the events that took place in “Avengers: Endgame.” Apart from his dramatic weight loss and a partial soul searching moments, the trailer also shows the “Guardians of the Galaxy” led by Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) but sans Gamora, a lightning-bolt wielding god, which many thinks will be Russell Crowe’s Zeus, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) leading New Asgard, and, most notable of all, Jane Foster as the new Thor.

In the final moments of the trailer, actress Natalie Portman dons Thor’s iconic suit as a reconstructed version of the Mjölnir swings onto her hand, marking her first appearance as the superhero and her comeback to the franchise.

In “Thor: Love and Thunder,” Thor recruits Valkyrie, Jane, and Korg, a Kronan gladiator who befriended Thor, to fight Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and stop him on his mission of eliminating all gods.

The fourth “Thor” film is directed by Taika Waititi, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson helping him to build the script. Salted to premiere on July 8, 2022, “Thor: Love and Thunder” is part of MCU’s Phase Four, which began with TV shows “WandaVision,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Loki,” and movies “Black Widow,” “Eternals,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” among others.
