NPC has not chosen a presidential bet

The conservative Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) party has no presidential candidate for the coming May 9 national elections.

‘’As of now, the declaration of our Council of Leaders is free zone,’’ Senate President Vicente C. Sotto, NPC chairman, said.

Sotto is the vice presidential candidate of independent presidential candidate Senator Panfilo M. Lacson.

He emphasized that he personally endorses Lacson.

‘’Now, as far as my party is concern, we have met a number of times already and I have consulted with the council of leaders. The NPC is being run by a chairman and a council of leaders eh,’’ he explained.

‘’But we always make sure na kinakausap namin ang mga kapartido namin at kinukuha namin ang sense nila (we always make sure we talk to our party mates and get their sense) Lately, the way it is as of today, yung presidential candidate is free zone. Free zone muna in other words,’’ he added.

‘’The term could be wrong pero ibig sabihin to each its own (what this means is to each its own). Kasi may mga members kaming committed na, committed kay ganito, committed kay ganun (There are members who are committed to this and that). Meron silang kanya-kanya, saka depende sa region yan (They have their particular choices, depending on their regions) Depende sa area (it depends on their areas). It was very difficult for us,’’ he added.

The NPC was founded just before the 1992 presidential elections by then presidential candidate Eduardo Cojuangco Jr.
