Lusty, Pheww believe Season 9 setback part of learning curve for Bren rookies

Veterans Alan “Lusty” Castromayor and Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel expressed their confidence that Bren Esports rookies can rebound from a dismal showing in the MPL Season 9.

The two said they also had their fair share of defeats before reaching the apex of their careers when they won the MPL Philippines Season 6 crown and the M2 World Championships title last year.

Phewww even believed that it could be better for the young squad to experience failure first because that would light the fire in them to further develop and be better players.

“Maganda na rin na naranasan na nila ‘yung pinaka mababang place kasi kami late namin nakuha ‘yun tsaka lang kami nagising na manalo kami sa SEA Games tapos ng Worlds. Sabay kami ni Lusty na nalaglag nun eh nung Season 4 tapos pagkatapos nun parang nagpeak uli kami,” said the Bren skipper.

Lusty echoed the same sentiments, saying that the team will not always be at the bottom of the standings and even cited his own experiences when he also suffered series of defeats before winning his first championship.

“‘Di naman talaga sa lahat ng season ‘yung simula mo maganda agad eh, ganun din sa akin nung unang season ko sa MPL, MPL Season 2 top 8 agad ako tanggal agad kami sa playoffs pero after nun Season 3 na champion agad ako,” said the veteran roamer.

The two however both agreed that it will still depend on how the players will take the losing season and if they will be able to rebound from it come Season 10.

“Sana maging lesson sa kanila na malaglag at magpalakas lagi,” said Pheww.

“Alam nyo na ‘yun (feeling) kasi naranasan na natin so next season dapat ipakita niyo na yung best niyo,” Lusty added.

Meanwhile for coach Paolo “Pauloxpert” Munsayac, he is expecting the rest of the team to play better now that they have one season of experience under their belts.

“Less pressure sa kanila tsaka yung mindset nila kapag maglalaro na sa stage, super important ‘yung experience na nakuha nila this season so hopefully next season right from the start talagang pedal to the medal na talaga,” he said.
