UST forward Santos slapped with one-game suspension

University of Santo Tomas forward Bryan Santos was slapped with a one-game suspension by the UAAP for an uncalled disqualifying foul he committed in the Growling Tigers' 91-80 loss against the Ateneo Blue Eagles last April 9.

Santos seemed to hit Ateneo big man Geo Chiu with his elbow in the final 16 seconds of the contest and it did not sit well with both Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin and UAAP basketball commissioner Tonichi Pujante.

Pujante and his team, after a thorough review, deemed that the hit was a "deliberate act of violence and not a legitimate basketball play."

Santos will be serving his suspension in the 4:30 p.m. encounter against University of the East Tuesday, April 12.

Likewise, the referee who missed to call on the situation will also serve a one-day suspension.

It was a domino effect as Chiu, for his part, will also be summoned by the Commissioner's Office after seemingly hitting UST's Christian Manaytay to the chest with his arm and shoulder with 15 seconds left in the payoff period.

Pujante also asked for the presence of Baldwin for conduct unbecoming of a head coach, team manager Christopher Quimpo for conduct unbecoming of a team manager, and assistant coach Ford Arao for conduct unbecoming of an assistant coach.

Meanwhile, De La Salle star Justine Baltazar was also invited to the Commissioner's Office after his excessive box-out defense against Adamson's Keith Zalvidar at the 1:43 mark of the second quarter.

The Green Archers took a 61-58 win over the Soaring Falcons.
