5.2-magnitude quake hits Batanes – Phivolcs


A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 jolted waters off Batanes, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday, April 11.

Phivolcs, in its report, said that the quake was recorded around 9:47 p.m. on Monday, April 11.

The epicenter of the quake was traced 107 km northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. It was also tectonic in origin, indicating that it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

While no intensities and damage were recorded, Phivolcs warned of aftershocks due to this quake.
