Due to logistical difficulties encountered in the shipment of the election materials, five Philippine Posts abroad will start the overseas voting for the May 2022 polls at a later date.

In a Facebook post, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Office for Overseas Voting said these are the Philippine Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand; Philippine Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan; Philippine Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste; Philippine Consulate General in Milan, Italy; and Philippine Consulate General in New York, USA.

The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai, China is also in the list but the reason cited by the poll body was the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Comelec has set the overseas voting period from April 10 to May 9, 2022.

More than 1.6 million registered overseas voters are expected to cast their vote in the different Philippine posts, embassies, or consulates during the period.

Meanwhile, with the start of the overseas voting period, the Comelec said campaigning abroad is now prohibited.

"Campaigning abroad is prohibited until May 9 within Philippine embassies, consulates, and other posts, where overseas voters may exercise their right to vote," it said.

Overseas voters are set to vote for president, vice president, senators, and party-list.
