No more Coronavirus at Cagayan de Oro City Jail, City Health Office declares

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 10 is now cleared of active cases of Covid-19, the City Health Office declared on Thursday, April 7.

CHO medical officer Dr. Ted Yu Jr. reported in an online briefer that all Covid-infected persons deprived of liberty (PDL) inside the city jail located in Lumbia village had already recovered.

“For our PDLs, we no longer have positive cases inside the city jail. We also don't have recorded death from the PDLs inside the jail," Yu said.

Apart from the PDLs, there is also no currently active case on the part of the BJMP personnel.

The CHO data showed the city jail has recorded 519 total cumulative cases of PDLs infected with the virus as of April 6. This figure was from the over 3,400 PDLs who have been tested against the virus.

The city government has been continuously coordinating with the management of BJMP-10 as to the necessary precautionary measures to avoid the surge of cases inside the jail.

It can be recalled, in the previous online briefer, CHO city epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya Jr. said the BJMP-10 has implemented strict protocols because of newly-admitted PDLs.

The city jail management assured that all PDLs are negative from Covid before transferring them to the main population.

The BJMP-10 also has its own temporary treatment and monitoring facility (TTMF), accredited by the Department of Health (DOH), where they transfer those PDLs who tested positive from the virus.

Aside from the city jail, all private hospitals here, including the government-owned JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH) and Army’s Camp Evangelista Station Hospital were also cleared from the active case of Covid-19.

In the same online briefer, Yu reported there was no new positive case detected in the city, of which the total cumulative cases remain at 25,804 with 14 active cases, 24,855 recoveries and 935 recorded deaths.

Yu said seven active cases are currently admitted in the TTMF and Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) respectively. NMMC is the Covid-19 referral hospital in region 10.

Yu urged the public to continuously adhere to the minimum public health standards to solve the problem brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our message always, the Covid-19 is still contagious. Therefore, we should not be complacent and we should always protect ourselves. Our behavior change and self-discipline are very important to fight the virus,” Yu added.
